My family & I attended a dog show just after getting Jack and we met Lance, a Beagle trainer.
As we were always working late and have no time to train our Beagle dog ourselves during that period, we decided to get Lance to train Jack on a personal basis at our home instead of a group of dogs at Lance’s school. We really wanted to jumpstart to make sure that Jack is well behaved and not harm our son, Jason, who was only 4 years old then. Years later, we read some books on dog training and further reinforce the training.
If you want to train your dog yourself, it is definitely possible but you will need to be patient and refer to some dog training books or similar resources from the Internet. I know my brother and a friend have trained their dog successfully but it really takes a lot of your energy if you are doing on a trail and error basis.
Therefore, I strongly suggest you get some professional help or good references; eg you may want to check out a few of the proven training courses or references I have mentioned on the right column of the page. This should help cut down the learning curve else you may end up frustrated and confuse your poor dog instead.
Here is a photo of Lance and his friend togther with Jack and Jason. The training was done in the evening as we were only home from work after 8pm!
Lance taught us how to walk Jack and command Jack to Sit, Stay, Heel, Down, Come, etc……
A certificate was issued after the completion of the training. Good boy, Jack!
