When we woke up yesterday morning, we found Jack’s left ear with dried blood. Luckily, it was just a minor injury compared to the previous right ear injury.
I cleaned his the dried blood off gently ( using a very wet cloth ) and saw a minor wound but could not really figure out how it happened though I found some spots of dried blood on the floor next to the tap and main gate. Though we were short of hard evidence, the family concluded that the culprit was Ruby, my Corgi, who is a bit too playful and very aggressive towards Jack at times.
Though the wound has stopped bleeding but it looked a bit reddidh or raw, so I applied this anti-septic solution from my First Aid kit. It is called Proflavine solution for minor cuts, wounds or bun; external use only. Though it was meant for humans but I have used it before on Jack and it worked.
Of course, if you are not comfortable to clean and dress your dog’s wound, please do not hesitate to bring it to the vet immediately for treatment.
Well, we decided to punish poor Ruby and put her in her crate and also tied up Jack as we do not want him to go to his favourite spot in the garden until his wound is dried and a bit healed. We did not want Ruby to be too playful and jump on Jack.
When Ruby first joined the family ( she was given to us by one of the neighbours as they were moving to an apartment ), Ruby was a bit of a bully and somehow bit the tip of Jack’s right ear. It was bleeding with a tip of his ear hanging out! We were alerted by Jack’s loud cry!!!
I managed to get some bandage and first aid band or elastoplast and compressed the wound to stop the bleeding. When I took him to the vet, I did such a good job bandaging his ear that the vet proposed to leave it for a day and then taught me how to slowly remove it and put some anti-septic powder over it. This was a bad wound and it took weeks to heal as I have to keep it dry and prevent the flies from resting on his wound.
I have 2 FREE ebooks to give to my visitors to my website and one of them is on First Aid for your Dog so go to the FREE BOOKS tab and follow the instructions to download your copy of the ebook. It may be of help to you.
But seriously, if you are not comfortable to treat your dog no matter how minor the injury, please rush your dog to the vet immediately as you can never tell how bad the injury could be.
Well, such accidents do happen so do be prepared for anything.
