Caring For Your Puppy takes up more time as compared to Caring For Your Dog.
A puppy is actually baby in canine clothings. You will have the puppy with you for the next 14 - to 18 years. To develop a proper relationship with you and your pet , you must start spending many hours a day in dog training, dog exercising and providing companionship. If you spend a lot of time away from home or extremely busy with work , then a puppy is not for you.
Do a checklist of what you must do before you bring your puppy back home. Remember your puppy is your baby.
1. Puppy Name - Careful with the name you choose for your puppy. You will be using your puppy with this name everyday. Keep the name short and simple.
2. Identify Your Puppy - Tag you puppy with it dog name and remember to include your telephone and address. If your puppy get lost, it can be returned easily returned to you .
3. Prepare Your Home - Puppies are naturally curious and like to smell and chew on anything new. Tidy up all loose cable and wires. Switch off electrical appliances at the socket. Cleaning detergents such as soap powder, paint stripper should be out of reach. If you have a favorite sandal or shoe , photos or any items of sentimental value, keep them away. Always remember, puppies love to chew
4. Types of Puppy Bed - The 3 most common type of beds available for puppy bed are the bean bag, wicker basket and the semi indestructible plastic basket. Bean bags are light and soft . They easily retain body heat and are easy to wash . Wicker basket are nice to look at however there is a high possibility that your puppy will chew at them and may end up with foreign particles in her mouth and tongue. I recommend the plastic basket lined with a thin foam .
5. Puppy Pen - Bringing your puppy home might leave it disoriented due to change in location and environment. Do not let your puppy roam around. Restrict it to one room and provide a puppy pen . The puppy will come to understand that the puppy pen is it’s own private area. In the puppy pen , provide water, food, a chewy toy and a comfortable bed. Initially leave the door wide open to allow your puppy to wander in and out as it pleases.
6. Puppy Toys - Do not give your puppy just any play toy. There are toys designed for puppies to stimulate your puppy physically and mentally. Puppy toys have special dog smell that is pleasing to them. Your puppy will love toys that are fun to chew, chase and retrieve. Every puppy loves a chewy bone toy. Chewing on a bone toy will help to exercise the jaws and clean the teeth
I hope this simple knowledge that i share will help many dog puppy owners.
