Jack, my Beagle, has drooping ears and as such, the ears are not well ventilated.
He used to have some sort of ear infection. The vet even took a sample of his ear wax to identify the cause of it. It was found to be some bacteria and he was given an injection.
I was also taught to clean his ears regularly. As his ear canals are shaped like an L-shape and the eardrums are at the end of it, I can go far in and not damage the eardrums.
If your dogs have drooping ears like my beagle, do watch our for any ear infection. Your dog may be scratching his ears with his paws or flicking his head to try to get rid of some itchness. Also, when you bathe your dogs, please be careful not to get soap or water into the ears. You may want to stuff some cottom wool into the ears before you bathe it. It is also advisable to clean their ears after a bathe too.
Please check with your vet and get him to teach you on how to clean your dog ears too. While Ruby does not have any ear infection and her ears are well ventilated, we also clean them to remove any dirt or wax but we do not go so far in into her ears. This should be part of your grooming regime to keep them in good shape.
I will post a video on cleaning Jack and Ruby ears within a few days’ time so please go to the Video tab to view it.
Have a good weekend.
