Crate training one puppy alone is a chore in itself. Throw a second puppy into the mix is a whole other situation in itself. You have to know the dynamics of two puppies being crated at the same time to be successful. Not being knowledgeable in crating can be a waste of your valuable time, and even worse, a total disaster. Do not go about crate training your puppies without knowing this invaluable information:

• Do not crate the puppies together after they are three months old. While this is nice for them to be together, behaviorally it is a bad idea.

• While they will grow to be together and not lonely, they can develop anxiety when being apart. There will be a time when they will be apart (one gets spayed or neutered) and it will be very stressful on the puppy if the other is not there.

• They will never have time to relax alone and constantly be playing. If they play constantly, they will never know what it is to relax.

• When letting your puppies out, make sure you stand unexcited to see your new puppies and guide them outside immediately. If you show excitement, your puppies will get excited and pee between before getting outdoors. They will grow used to this after time; consistency is the key.

• When praising them for eliminating outdoors, praise them together at the same time. If you do not show equal favoritism, one puppy might get aggressive. This, however, depends on the breed.

• If one of the puppies eliminates indoors, put them in their crate for a half hour period. Make sure that the other puppy does not have access to the other. Also, make sure that they cannot hear each other bark; they should be a good distance apart.
